| Title: | 1962 Engine Identification |
| Date: | 10/24/1999 |
| Question: |
I am not sure if the engine of my 1962 Vette is 300 or 340 bhp. I can't find the engine
registration stamped number that would help me. Where is it ? Is there another way to
differentiate the two engines?
- Marc |
| Answer: |
The engine identification stamp is located on the right (passenger)
side, front top of the engine block, and just below the valve cover. We
think that the 340hp engine had a higher red line on the tachometer.

| Title: | 1961 Convertible Top Seal |
| Date: | 2/1/2000 |
| Question: |
DO THE EARLY CONVERTIBLE TOPS PROVIDE A GOOD SEAL AGAINST THE TRUNK?
EVERY CAR I HAVE SEEN HAS A GAP OF 1/4 INCH PLUS ON THE BACK BOW. HOW DO I
GET A GOOD SEAL? WAS THERE A GOOD FIT WHEN THESE CARS WERE NEW? WHEN I
FINALLY GET A CLOSE FIT ON THE TRUNK, THE WINDOWS DON'T FIT PROPERLY. HELP!
- Alex |
| Answer: |
The early 60's convertible tops did not provide a good seal.
Try new seals to achieve a better fit.

| Title: | 1960 Market Value |
| Date: | 10/19/1999 |
| Question: |
I need your assistance....I have a 1960 'vette which has been in storage
for a few years and the man who is storing it would like to buy it.
My problem is that I have no idea what I should charge. I would say that
the body & interior are in good to very good shape, but the car hasn't been
started in years. Soft top is still attached. It used to have a hard top,
but I don't know where it went. I realize this is a "guestimate" at the very worst but could you please
give me a "worst-case" or "ballpark" price for it?
- DebbyO |
| Answer: |
The November 1999 issue of Corvette Fever listed two 1960 Vettes that were sold at the
Bloomington auction. Low = $24,750, Average = $26,125, High = $27,500. The condition of
your Vette will play a big part of how much it is worth. Find the top because it will add
more to the selling price. Check the Vettes For Sale page of the Vette Site and see what
other 1960 Vettes are selling for.

| Title: | 1960 Most Common Problems |
| Date: | 10/4/1999 |
| Question: |
What is the main thing to check when looking at a 1960 vette, with a
powerglide trans, 283, with pt rear?
- Otto |
| Answer: |
Check the frame for rust. Check all the front suspension parts
carefully because they are expensive to fix.
