| Title: | Surging Lights | |
| Date: | 2/10/2000 | |
| Question: |
My dash lights and headlights are surging. The volts read fine. The voltage
doesn't change with the surge and the car runs fine. They don't go out they
get dim and then brighter. A friend told me it was the headlight switch. I
thought the diodes or something was going bad in the alternator and the amps
were surging.
- Doug | |
| Answer: |
Get the alternator checked at any auto parts store. If it's not the
alternator it's probably a short or a bad ground somewhere.

70's to early 80's frame?
- David Ways | |

We have never done this and don't think it's possible, but never say never.

| Title: | Extended Storage | |
| Date: | 2/4/2000 | |
| Question: |
Could you help me I have a 95 Corvette with 26k miles on it and wish to put
it in storage for an extended period of time to truly uphold and preserve
it.
- Bill | |
| Answer: |
The best thing to preserve it would be NOT to store it and drive it! It's better for the
entire car if it is driven regularly. If you must store it, put up on jack
stand to take the weight off the suspension and tires. Add fuel stabilizer
to the gas and run it a bit to make sure it gets in the fuel lines and
injectors. Get a product to prevent moisture from building in the interior.
Buy something that repels mice and other animals because they like to build
homes and chew through everything. You could buy one of those big tent/bag
things and put your Vette in that. - The Vette Pros |
| Title: | Fastest Stock Vette |
| Date: | 1/26/2000 |
| Question: |
Which year is the fastest Vette from the factory with no tweaking?
Please list a few.
- Tom Skaman |
| Answer: |
The 1993 ZR1 with 405hp is still the "King Of The Hill"! It has the horsepower, torque, and the
technology to put it to the pavement. The ZR1 all aluminum engine launched the 3500lb coupe from 0-60
in 4.5 seconds and had a top speed of 175 mph. Many of the muscle cars from the 60's are rockets. The
special racing and rare 1969 ZL-1 engine option produced over 500hp and speeds over 170 mph! The 1966
optional L72 cranked out 450 hp. The new 5th genreration ( C5 ) LS1 engine produces 345 hp which
which can propel the C5 from 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, with a top speed of 172 mph.

| Title: | The "B" in BHP |
| Date: | 1/26/2000 |
| Question: |
What does the "b" in bhp stand for?
- Tom Skaman |
| Answer: |
The "b" stands for brake, Brake Horse Power. This measurement is calculated by using a
water brake to provide resistance on the crank shaft when an engine is dyno tested.

| Title: | Winter Storage |
| Date: | 11/3/1999 |
| Question: |
I, unfortunately, had to put my vette up for storage this week. I live in Michigan...I don't believe that I have to explain any more. I have an 86
(Z51 handling package), with a L98. I've disconnected the battery, but plan to connect and run it every week or two to keep it lubed. Should I
use fuel stabilizer? Should I consider putting it on stands?
- Scott Beyer |
| Answer: |
Add a fuel stabilizer. Drive the car once a week and make sure the
engine reaches operating temperature. This avoids condensation build up
and gets the oil and other fluids moving. If you can't drive it, run the engine for
about a 1/2 hour every two weeks. It doesn't hurt to put the battery on
a trickle charger.

| Title: | Brining Paint Back To Life |
| Date: | 10/8/1999 |
| Question: |
I have a 94 polo green convertible.
Would you have a tips on bringing my paint back to showroom condition as well as the beige top?
- Thomas |
| Answer: |
3M makes a product called "Finesse It". USE IT VERY CAREFULLY! If you
don't want to risk damaging the paint, take it to a body shop and have
the paint professionally buffed. A good vinyl top cleaner will work for
the top unless it is in bad shape.

| Title: | Frame Off Restoration |
| Date: | 10/5/1999 |
| Question: |
It started with a rear main seal replacement that quickly lead into a
full Frame Off Restoration, I'm a sucker for work and I am looking
forward to working through the big problems. As the car sits now, the
body is off the frame and the frame has been fully stripped of all
components. Both kick ups over the rear end are in need of work and in
all likelihood, both side rails will need extensive work. Should I
dip-n-strip or have the frame sandblasted and with the frame void of
rust, I will find out how little metal is left. If I replace frame
rails, how do I jig the frame to keep factory specs?
- Notes_shortname |
| Answer: |
We recommend the dip-n-strip method. Take the frame to a restoration
specialist who knows the exact jig settings for the frame.
